I was reading a japanese folktale. I came across this. It's translated as 30 years old. But couldn't find the why. Normally age is like nijuussai, nanasai etc right. Can you explain please とはどういう意味ですか?

In this case 30近く means “nearly 30 years old.” 歳(さい) is often omitted when expressing an age. 🙂

Officially numbers followed by sai. However often sai is omitted in casual situation, especially conversation.
