Quiero is “ like you”
Amo is “love you”
You know the difference right? Like I love tacos. And I like tacos are slightly but different.

«Amar» es un sentimiento más fuerte que «querer».
Amas a las personas más cercanas a ti, que siempre están para apoyarte (tu familia, tu pareja...)
Quieres a las personas que aprecias y respetas, pero no son tan cercanas a ti (tus amigos no tan cercanos, algún conocido amable...)

Claramente depende de la persona; alguien puede no amar a su madre, pero sí quererla (tenerle cierto aprecio) y alguien puede amar a un amigo incondicionalmente.
«Querer» también significa «want»:
•Quiero ese celular, me han dicho que es bueno.
•Quiero que te quedes.

"Lo amo" is I love him and "Lo quiero" is I love him but less. There isn't an exact translation for that meaning of "querer" in English... by context you'd either translate it to "love" or "like"
