@ShaneKim I think make sure the residents don't do anything against the rules. Some will organize social events. If there is an issue between room mates, the RA can help mediate.

As I was an RA, I may be able to give more insight. An RA's duties depend on the university. However, in most cases an RA is sort of a hall monitor. They make sure that residents/students don't do anything against school rules, promote a fun living environment, and help if there is an issue with roommates. However, they are also there to answer questions or give advice on where to find the answers. Like help you find out where to find a nurse on campus or what time the library is open. In my college, RA's were also used as security, meaning if something went wrong such as a student needed medical help, they would know how to get help. Or they would know where their residents were during a fire.

MaraAngel is right. RAs at my university also take turns being "on call" and encourage students to engage in campus activites. On call just means that they have to available and alert that night to handle any late emergency situations.
