An abridgement is a shortened version. It's longer than a summary (I think). It's probably more common to see the word "abridged" in US English.
A synopsis is a summary with just the major points. These are handy to read in school to see if you understood the important parts of the book you had to read.
A recap is a brief summary of everything that has happened up until now. Examples:
- A few minutes at the beginning of a show to remind you what happened last time
- many anime have a recap episode halfway through the season
