Both of those sentences are incorrect. It's better to say, "When is the homework due?"

@ThirstyForKnowledge thanks! but if it were a different example, which one would be correct? I'd like to know where to put 'for'

If you change it to "what" then it is clearer
"What is this thing for?" is correct and we say this
"For what is this thing?" is not normal (although grammatically possible), it would only be seen maybe in poetry or something that is being different from normal on purpose
