Edging towards something – moving towards something in a slow and stealthy manner.
This expression is usually used when we want to say that we are taking our time because we are being careful, or we are trying to do something quietly.
It comes from how you have to move very carefully when you are standing on the edge of something. Imagine the way that you slow right down and start moving very carefully once you come to the edge of a precipice – this is edging.
