@islama112233go both are natural expressions but “put his hair up in ponytail” is definitely more common and right no matter how you use it so I would recommend sticking with that expression

@islama112233go both are natural, but “put his hair up in a ponytail” shows that he/someone chose to have it tied or he himself tied it. “Wear his hair up in a ponytail” just states that at the time, his style includes him having his hair tied up.

@anis088 even if it is more common, it doesn’t necessarily make it more fitting. It really depends on the context, as saying “put his hair up in a ponytail” can be less appropriate and even weird, if used carelessly
