Question about Korean
I think double consonants are very hard to separate from common consonants. Do Koreans hear clearly when ㅃ is ㅃ and not ㅂ or ㄲ is ㄲ and not ㄱ?
Reply if you don't get my question so I can specify it more. thanks(:

Indo-European languages have a voiced/unvoiced system.
In addition to this, Korean has an Aspirated/Unaspirated consonant system.
Hold a tissue or thin paper in front of your mouth and pronounce k, t, p. If the paper does not move or moves slightly, ㄲ, ㄸ, ㅃ are pronounced.
in figure,
입술 = lips
닫힘/개방 = closed/opened
성대 울림 = vibration of throat
조음 시간 = time of articulation, just time.
example of p,b according to figure
consonant / IPA
ㅍ / pʰ
front ㅂ / b̥
ㅃ / p͈
middle ㅂ / b
ㅡㅡㅡ
and yes. we do distinguish them
in India, there are 4 types....
voiced / voiceless [g, k]
aspirated / unaspirated [h, ø]
2 by 2 = 4

@twinpeaks02 i didn't really get the picture, but i think i kinda get it, so when the double consonants are pronounced, they are not pronounced with as much "blowing" as the other consonants?
- Korean
@EliasSkeppstedt
yes. voiceless + less air
you'll get more info by searching 'unaspirated sound'
