Question about English (US)

Can you use names in short answers or do we need to use only pronouns? For example, can I answer the question "Did Linda read yesterday?" as "Yes, Linda did."
Such an answer sounds weird for and I've never really came across using anything besides pronouns in short answers. However, I can't find any rule prohibiting using names in this type of sentences.
