How do you say this in Japanese? I don’t feel like I can do much with the level of fluency I am at right now as I lack confidence. However, looking back I can see that I have progressed a lot more than when I started learning.

It’s a piece of cake translating the part starting with however to the end. I would be like; それでも、学び始めた頃と比べればだいぶ上達したと思います。I think need to make sure what exactly means the another half sentence. Does it mean that you lack confidence because you’re still not that fluent or competent in Japanese, and that makes you to think that you are not gonna be able to handle something? I don’t get what do you think you can’t do.
