"Bym" używane jest na końcu wyrazów mówiących o czynności, kiedy mówimy o sobie, na przykład "chciałbym" co oznacza "I would like to" albo "zjadłbym..." co oznacza "I'd like to eat..."

@Dworak you need to use "bym" if you're not sure about things you would like to do, if you're hungry but not sure what you would like to eat you can say "chciałbym coś zjeść" or "zjadłbym coś" which means "i would like to eat something"

1. You make this 'would' tense by adding -by (for on/ona/ono/oni), -byś (for ty), -bym (ja), -byście (wy).
Chciałbym - I would like, mogliby - they could. If you change order of words it will be 'ja bym chciał' and 'oni by mogli'
2. By = żeby (less common than żeby)
Chciałabym, by tak było (i would like it to be this way)
On chciałby, bym to zrobił (he would like me to do this). The 'em' ending from 'zrobiłem' jumps to 'by' and changes it to 'bym', don't ask why.

W języku polskim występuje 'tryb warunkowy', podobnie jak w angielskim - okresy warunkowe. 'Bym' (and other forms) jest najbliżej związane z Second Conditional.
Example.
If I had a lot of money, I would go on a trip around the world.
Gdybym miał dużo pieniędzy, pojechałbym w podróż do okoła świata.
He would help her, if he had more time.
On by jej pomógł, gdyby miał więcej czasu.
Samo 'by' can be use as conective 'aby' or 'żeby'.

"by" is also a synonym of "żeby" if that helps you any way.
For example:
Powiedzieli mu, BY przyszedł
or
Powiedzieli mu, żeby przyszedł.
Both mean - le dijeron que viniera
And "bym" ends the verbs for example: byłbym, poszedłbym, zrobiłbym - sería, iría, haría.
It changes when the person changes:
byłbym - sería
byłbyś - serías
byłby - sería
bylibyśmy - seríamos
bylibyście - seríais
byliby - serían
This ending is the same for females and males, but the form of the verb changes. The one above is male's. And for women it'd be:
byłabym
byłabyś
byłaby
byłybyśmy
byłybyście
byłyby
