Question about English (US)

Does this sound natural: "The police came to my room with their dog. The dog sniffed around. The police snooped around. And then they left not having found anything of interest."?

I'm especially curious if I should add a word like 'there' or 'it' into the sentences with "sniffed around" and "snooped around"?
So it would be something like: "The police snooped it around." or "The police snooped around there." (and the same for sentences with "sniff around").
