Question about English (US)

How would you know the difference if someone said "can" or "can't" in conversation?
Some time I couldn't catch the "t" even if I know that the person answers negative.

1)
As native English speakers can notice that easily?
or you judge that by context actually?

2)
May I ask if you can give me URL or anything what you recommend for improve my listening skill?

Please let me know if my English is incorrect.
Thanks in advance.
