Question about French (France)

I have difficulty understanding when to use ''des'' and "les". I know "des" is indefinite and "les" is definite but I see so many exceptions, for example: "Les choses sont simples dans votre cas" is translated to "things are simple in your case" but "les" is used before "choses" and not "des". Can someone explain why?
