Are "knucklehead" and "bonehead" really mild words? According to someone they are, I just want to "double check" that is that a general opinion.

If you really know someone very well, such as a close friend, you could say that and they won't take offense and may laugh. However, it's not a mild word as it can be hurtful to someone and can easily be misunderstood to be very insulting.
