- Arabic
well, this word is the plural of مطبعة which means a printing house
Plurals of non living thing are always treated like singular feminine
e.g. مطابع كثيرة many printing houses
المطابع تغلق فى السادسة printing houses close at 6:00
I hope this is what u meant
- Persian
What about living things? Are they treated like masculine?
- Arabic
No. Plurals of animals are also treated like feminine singular and plurals of human beings are treated according to the gender of their singular.
for example:
animals:
الكلب يعوى the dog is barking
الكلبة تعوى the (female) dog is barking
الكلاب تعوى the dogs are barking *(here the same verb infliction as with a single female)*
but for humans:
الطبيب لطيف the doctor is nice
الطبيبة لطيفة the (female) doctor is nice
الأطباء لطيفون the doctors are nice *(here the adjective is plural and masculine)*
الطبيبات لطيفات the (female) doctors are nice *(here the adjective is plural and feminine)*
I hope this is helpful!

Thanks so in summary, since الکلاب is an animal, it's plural of the word الکلبة

Are this rules different in each countries? Cuz I'm learning the Saudi Arabia Arabic
I don't belive there is so much difference though
I don't belive there is so much difference though
- Arabic
These rules apply to the standard arabic language الفصحى which is used in all countries in most written texts, taught in schools and used for example in official speeches, in the news, in film subtitles..etc
When it comes to spoken dialects there are differences (sometimes significant) among countries.
The saudi dialect is mostly well understood in other countries thogh :)
