However the difference is that, in the first sentence, it is stated that there are more than 1 uniform which students have or may have to wear.
While in the second sentence, it is stated that all students have to wear the same uniform with no variation.

Because the uniforms have variations (one for girls, one for boys, one for summer, one for winter), I should use "uniforms."
