Due to is more formal than because.

Both are acceptable and are grammatically correct. 2 is more formal. If you wanted to be more informal you could say “My daughter’s going to be absent tomorrow because of a family matter”. If you wanted to be even more informal you could replace “going to” with “gonna”. This of course should only be used when speaking though.
