Can't say it's easy but du is nominative informal (subject) "du hast Hunger., dich is accusative,(direct object) "ich liebe dich" and dir is dative ( indirect object). "Ich gebe dir das Buch."

Subject (in English sentences: before verb, except in questions): du. Try to say the sentence with I or he, if that works it's the subject. Object (after the verb): dir/dich. Try to say the sentence with me or him, then it's the object. When to use dir and when to use dich: dir is the indirect object (dative object). Try to move it around in the English sentence and replace it with a noun, if it can be "to you" it's dative. Otherwise it's a direct object (accusative object). If a verb is marked as transitive it requires a direct object (dich). Intransitive verbs have an indirect object (dir). The prepositions mit, nach, von, zu, bei, aus, außer, seit are followed by dative (dir). The others (für etc.) by accusative (dich).
