While and Whilst mean the same thing, except there are a few expressions, where whilst just is never used.
In North America, the word, whilst is viewed as old fashion or outdated and it is not used very often.
The British use whilst more than Anglophones who live in North America use it, but it is used by them much less than while is used.
Examples where whilst is never used:
1- We chatted for a while.
2- We used to while away the long summer days in the swimming pool.
