Is it easy for you to read romaji?

I played an online game with a Japanese person, and because of my laptop, I couldn't type in Japanese but I had to type in romaji.

For example: "issyoni asonde kurete arigatou"

I was worried they couldn't read it, but luckily they could.

Actually some people I've met couldn't even read romaji, so I am curious...

We learn Romaji in a 4th grade class at elementary school which is mandatory.

@Meri2021 It depends on the situation I guess. I think in games for example, there is the possibility that it doesn't support Hiragana/Kana so you have to type like this.
But I don't know, personally I dislike it as well😅

We can read romaji but it’s very hard and tiring.

We always read sentences with a mixture of hiragana, katakana and kanji, and we can grasp the meaning from kanji’s shape, we don’t read kanji phonetically but grasp its meaning like we see pictures.

So reading the mixture of kanji, hiragana and katakana is very quick because we don’t have to pronounce them in our mind.

For example, 田園調布（でんえんちょうふ）is a place name, and in romaji it’s spelled as Denen-choufu . We can read it, but it’s far easier to read kanji, because 田園means pastoral, and 調布is the name we often see as a place name.

Many place names, when written In romaji seem to us like words of an unknown language. We have to read phonetically in mind and realize what it means at last.

@9744d1ef I totally agree with you! Even though I'm a Japanese learner, people writing only in romaji or hiragana is tiring... Kanji makes everything easier 😂

Honesty,Japanese elders can't even read alphabets cos of never been taught.
