Question about Malaysia
Noticed all Malaysians I know are carrying their national cards with them (also, they all drive cars).
Do you have to do that by law? Or just a habit?

@Green_bean Not everyone drive a car. But it's real convenience. Some still take public transport if within walking distance. But most destination could not be reached by last mile connections. As the weather is hot, you might be sweating wet by the time you reach your destination. However, not everyone can afford a car, many would still opt for bikes.

I implied maybe you need an ID because you are a driver, while maybe those who use public transportation have no need to carry IDs.

@Green_bean Whoever walks on the street should have an ID. if you are driving, you need a driving licence too. So make sure you carry both ID and driving licence. 😅

yes, it's required by law to carry your ic (identity card) with you at all times so when stopped by police, they can easily identify you. you can be arrested otherwise. as for cars, the majority of us do drive, (i just got my license) but not everyone does.

Thank you guys for the insightful answers.. Really important.
Honestly, feeling super conflicted.
If stolen or lost, getting a new foreign ID would take me up to 2 months, plus getting a new visa the same time 😑

Plus, if there's an accident or crime, it would be easier for the police and medic team if you carry the IC at all times. We never know what could happen once we step out of the house.
