@aidanherman05 Thanks. Is it natural to say “God or Jesus, these type of thing, wouldn’t open a conversation with us Chinese”?
- English (US)
@studiousme It would be more natural to say "God, Jesus, or that type of thing" instead of "God or Jesus, these type of thing", but the rest is good

@aidanherman05 Got it. Can I say “wouldn’t start (up) a conversation”? I’m not sure if I can replace “open” with “start (up)”.
- English (US)
@studiousme Yeah, in fact, that'd make you sound even more natural to say "start up" instead of "open"

Yes, but what about Confucius/Daoism? Also, there are many Buddhists in Tibet. Even in Hong kong, a place that was conquered by the UK, around 30% (27%) are Buddhist.

@aidanherman05 Thank you. So “start” alone doesn’t sound natural to replace “open”?

@Linjieyang Talking about Confucius/Daoism would be better than Buddhism, because we learn their sayings from childhood. But Buddhism... nope, we are not interested in it, especially the younger generation (myself included). I’ve never come across any Chinese people who talked with me about Buddhism or any related concepts. We find it boring. I’d say the older generation might be interested. So that’s all I have to say.

@aidanherman05 Ok. So I can use “start up” or “open”. “Start up” is even more natural. Thank you!

@studiousme Also I want to add, just go for it. you will have less time in the future, as in the 文言文, people always mention how you should study young. Your English is already fluent, I think learning Korean now would be better, because later, you may regret it.
