"Creek" usually refers to a smaller body of water than "river."
The main differences are —
- rivers are (usually) larger than creeks
- rivers branch out, and flow in channels, but creeks do not
- rivers are more powerful than creeks (some rivers are even used to generate electricity, but most creeks cannot)

Generally speaking, river is an umbrella term for creek. A creek is a rather narrowed and limited stream of water whereas a river can be large.
