Question about English (US)
How do you say this in English (US)? 120
How do you say this in English (US)? 120
I'm confused to pronounce numbers in English.
I learnt at school to pronounce 120 as "one hundred and twenty," seeming too long.
Do you actually use that, or using other short expression like one-two-zero?

@Ninja_Shukuchi Dropping the "hundred and" only works when you are counting. Like the example randomghost said, "one nineteen, one twenty, one twenty one".
If you are saying a specific amount of money, $120 = "one hundred twenty dollars", the most you can drop is the "and". Just saying "one twenty dollars" would be wrong.
Saying just "one twenty" about money might be confusing, since it could mean $120 (one hundred and twenty dollars) or $1.20 (one dollar and twenty cents). It would depend on context.

sadly no you typically just say one hundred and twenty when counting if you're saying cash you can go one nineteen, one twenty, one twenty one, etc. so the only shorter way ik is get rid of the and 🥲

@randomghost so I can't say "one twenty" for other than cash, right?
- English (US)
@Ninja_Shukichi I mean you could probably do it to for quicker counting like one twenty one twenty two one twenty three with that it sounds better without the and I dont even know why it's there maybe just too look fancy it just makes it feel like a tongue twister

in addition to the and, also the "hundred" is not mandatory when it is obvious, is it?
- English (US)
Bingo, its not entirely needed. Especially if the person gets that your talking about numbers.

@Ninja_Shukuchi Native English speakers pronounce 120 as "one hundred and twenty" or just "one hundred twenty".
You probably will not find people who say "one two zero"

Oh, I see. So, I will say “one hundred twenty” with only dropping the and!
