Question about United Kingdom

Can English speakers really tell apart an alligator and a crocodile?

How about:
panther vs jaguar vs leopard vs cheetah?
squirrel vs chipmunk?
crane vs heron vs stork?

I ask this because I cannot.
English is my second language and I am always surprised by how specific the species are in English-speaking vlogs, comments and children stories.
