Question about English (US)
"Michael is badly wounded. They say it's 60/40 in his favor"
"Michael is badly wounded. They say it's 60% in his favor"
Same meaning? 👆
If so... is 60/40 a different way to say 60%?
Like, is 50/50 another way to say 50% too?
30/70 another way to say 30% and so on?

Yea same meaning but saying 60/40 in his favor sounds better but it can be understood both ways. Saying it’s 60% in his favor does not sound that natural to me as normally saying it’s in his favor is used to specify that he is the won with the better of the two odds.
If you wanted to say the % you could say “ they say he has a 60% chance of winning%
But this seems less natural than saying the 60/40 but it’s the same meaning
Yea it’s just another way to say percents out of a hundred but is mostly used in matches or games but the 50/50 is used quite often in other situations to say it could go either way

@Splashy101 ooh
so does using number/number always sound more natural than using % in any situation or just in competition cases (like games)?
"He has 70/30 chance to survive the accident"
"80/20 of the people have voted 'yes'"
"10/90 of the machines have some defect"

@canivete22_ for the most part it’s far more common to just say % but for like betting odds on matches it’s more common to use the 80/20 like “ the odds are 30/70 in johns favor”
You really wouldn’t use the 80/20 stuff outside of situations like matches.
50/50 can be used far more frequently though, like saying “ it’s a fifty fifty either way” you can say that in many situations like your first example.
Number/number is really only odds and not %s
