A lot of adults like when a show has real stakes and anyone can die. It makes it more unpredictable.
My favorite animated show is The Venture Brothers, which has some blood, but not as much as Invincible.

@monyumonyu Yeah, Robert Kirkman likes guts. He wrote the original comics for both Invincible and The Walking Dead.

I think we’re just not as sensitive. Adult shows often have lots of blood, and video games have even more. Adult animated shows often have some amount of shock value; Invincible has crazy violence, South Park and Family Guy have vulgarity (and violence), and American Dad or Big Mouth have explicit content. It doesn’t make them bad shows, even if it makes them a bit hard to digest.
I think animations like that go over so well here is because Americans appreciate a higher level of shock value.
