Neither is correct.
The correct is: Он звони́т другу.

@ahmadnara Правильно будет сказать "Он звонит другу". Глагол "звонить" требует после себя существительное в дательном падеже. Слова "звонет" с ударением на о́ нет, точнее это ошибка, которую часто совершают носители языка. Правильно будет сказать "звони́т".

@firuza97 носители языка не совершают ошибок, кроме оговорок. Ударение на о оговоркой не является.

@BitardSychev "Оговорка" это ошибочно произнесённое слово или выражение. На мой взгляд, слово "зво́нет" именно в этой форме с этим ударением произносится слишком часто, чтобы быть просто оговоркой. Разумеется, если это слово используется, то оно уже есть в языке и так легко никуда не исчезнет. Я лишь хотела отметить, что "звони́т" считается правильной формой. а "зво́нет" хоть и используется, но таковой не является.
Что касается ошибок, я думаю, что их может совершать каждый и в этом нет ничего плохого.

@firuza97 это одно и то же слово с разным ударением и никакая не форма. Правильного и неправильного в языке нет

В любом случае каждый в праве сам выбирать с каким ударением произносить данное слово. Остановимся на этом.)

You can put a question:
он звонит кому? другу? "кому/чему?" is a marker of the dative case
The accusative case is used when the question is кого?/что?
Я вижу кого? друга. Я вижу что? лес.
I know, it might be difficult for a foreigner to guess about the question, but this is the only hint I can give you. Otherwise, you have to memorize a lot 🤷♀️

@firuza97 "звони́т", конечно, правильный вариант произношения.
Но если произносят с ударением на "о" (что неправильно), то окончание-то все равно -ит, а не -ет.

@Elenichka верно, мне кажется, что ещё окончание искажается, когда мы неправильно произносим. Это и путает иностранцев. Именно поэтому в вопросе было написано звонет.
