Question about English (US)
I'm confused about "studied the person" in this sentence. Why isn't it "studied people" since it's talking about people in general?
The old people ‘have really studied the person and how people behave, and some of them are pretty good’
------For context------
He will confidently diagnose the Lindy being of most things.
Video games? “Not Lindy.”
Nightclub? ‘Lindy. Actually deep Lindy. ”
Slim medieval modernism? “Every time you get away from fractal patterns and graceful details, it’s not Lindy.”
What about sex toys? “Lindy,” he said, adding: “ancient egypt. ”
The Jeffrey Epstein scandal? ‘A rich man who walks around and commits criminal behavior and abuses people? This is beautiful Lindy! ”
Epstein, he pointed out, illustrated how Lindy is not a moral compass; many common behaviors in the ancient world are considered abominable today.
But the persistent behavior over millennia makes the lessons of antiquity powerful. “Human nature does not change,” he said. The old people ‘have really studied the person and how people behave, and some of them are pretty good’.

@ttmto i get what you mean when 'studied people' would be more clear but i think in this case the speaker is using "the person" in reference to the psyche of people / think of the word 'person' in relations to psychology?
