- Country or region United Kingdom
@chamicy Whatever jam you prefer would be fine. Strawberry or raspberry are most traditional, but blueberry, blackberry or blackcurrant would be fine too.
Smoked salmon sandwiches would also be traditional. Other typical fillings would be ham, cheese or egg mayonnaise with cress.

"fish fries"? Do you mean "French fries"?
In any case, hash browns are often part of a fry-up, but a lot of people don't like their inclusion. I would be confused if I asked for a full English and got fries, personally, but this may depend on region (I'm from the Midlands).

@askingsaint What I meant was fried white fish, like fish and chips. There seem to be differences in breakfast in different regions. Thank you.

@chamicy ah okay, I understand now. I'd be quite surprised to get a full English with any kind of fish in it, especially not the kind you find in fish and chips.

@askingsaint What about kippers? I'm from the south and don't have them myself but I know of people who do

@askingsaint Thank you for telling me. It seems that fish fries rarely make it into a full English breakfast.

@imulsion Thank you. As your answer, there are examples of herring being served for breakfast. I checked and it seems to be on the breakfast menu at one of the best hotels in the UK, The Ritz London. It seems to be similar to the way Japanese people eat fish for breakfast.

@chamicy I think hash browns are more American but they are sometimes served with an English Breakfast.
The usual components are:
Sausage, bacon, fried egg, fried mushrooms, fried tomatoes, black pudding (blood pudding), baked beans and optional toast.
No fish at all.

@Jjosiejo Thank you for the clear explanation. I now have a better understanding of what a typical English breakfast is like.
- Country or region United Kingdom
@chamicy We only usually eat this at cafes on the weekend or after a late night of partying 😇 Most mornings people eat toast, cereal or yoghurt, something like that.

@Jjosiejo So it's a special breakfast eaten at weekends, for example. I also made it because I longed for a special English breakfast. Is milk tea still an essential drink?
- Country or region United Kingdom
@chamicy That looks delicious! And yes, most people would drink tea with it, or coffee. I drink my tea black, most people usually put milk in it still though.
I usually drink about 10 cups of tea a day I would say 😁

@Jjosiejo Thank you for taking a look at the breakfast I made. I have recently discovered the delicious taste of tea. Black is delicious too.
I would like to try making afternoon tea next time, is there anything else essential besides scones and sandwiches?

@chamicy
Strawberry jam and clotted cream with the scones, and you could also have petit fours or fairy cakes. When I was a child, we would have afternoon tea with my granny sometimes and she would bake Madeira cake, ginger loaf cake, banana bread or flapjacks as well.
There will be recipes for all of these on the BBC goodfood website.

@Jjosiejo Would it be wicked if it was blueberry jam instead of strawberry jam? Also, other than cucumber, are there any other preferred ingredients for afternoon tea sandwiches?
I will look for the recipe, from the BBC website. Thank you for all the information you've given me.
