What would be the difference between "off the top of my head" and "off the dome"? Would you use them both in the same situations? If not, in which cases it would be better to use one over the other? IMPORTANT: correct me if I'm wrong, I suspect it'd be better to use "off the top of my head" when remembering something" and "off the dome" when improvising something (whether it be a rap song or a speech), am I right?

I think "off the top of my head" can be used for remembering or improvising, while "off the dome" is used mainly for improvising.
Also, "off the top of my head" is a very common phrase that everyone will understand. "Off the dome" is more modern slang, so I wouldn't use it when talking to someone older because they probably won't understand it, or in any kind of formal context, as it's not really appropriate.

I would argue that "off the top of my head" is used for thinking on the spot or thinking of something right then and there. The only time I see "off the dome" used is when someone gets hit in the head with an object and then the object bounces off and then you would say, "the ball bounced off his dome" other than that I rarely hear "off the dome" being used. I would say just stick to using "off the top of my head."
