Question about English (US)
GRAMMAR. How to explain the use of as in this sentence: "This can be used as an alternative"
I understand "as" is used to talk about the way one thing is similar to another thing. So, 'as' is a conjunction and needs to be followed by a subject and a verb or by a prepositional phrase. So, it's "an alternative" the subject in this case???

"This can be used as an alternative [to some antecedent]."
We currently use A, however B can be used as an alternative [to A].
(i.e., B instead of A; B can replace A)
