Hi everybody! Would you say that ENDORSEMENT and APPROVAL are synonymous? (referring to Italian newspapers that report Meloni - probably our next prime minister - as "receiving the endorsement of Washington Post")

They're similar, but an endorsement is very formal in this context. If you endorse someone, you're supporting them and you want other people to also support them. If you just approve of someone, it doesn't come with the same level of formality or obligation. Like if I endorse a candidate who later commits a crime, it reflects far poorer on me and my organization, because I told other people to also support them. Does that make sense?
