It should be either takes or took. What is written there doesn’t make any sense.
Even with the sentence corrected, it’s extremely hard to work out what’s going on. I could make an educated guess, but I don’t really know an awful lot about gold mining – if indeed that is what this text is talking about.
The real question is – what the hell is a gold proposition? Is it like a claim, somewhere where people think there might be gold? I just don’t know.
