They sound like two completely separate sentences. They don’t help each other.
Harry was too timid to take a bath alone, even though all of the animals in the tub were a figment of his imagination.
Now, the two ideas go together. In your original, the tenses don’t line up. We are not perfectly sure of what the relationship between the ideas is. Something has to change.
