ほぼ同じです。1の方は普通です。2の方は受動形なので、「他の誰か・外因のおかげで」のニュアンスを持ってます。進化する原因は内因の場合、2は不自然になります。
They're about the same. 1st is "normal". 2nd is in the passive form so it emphasises the nuance of "due to someone/something else". If the reason for the improvement was internal, "has been improved" sounds unnatural.
