意味は十分伝わりますし、日本人も「車をやめて〜」と言うこともあると思います。
ただ、
「車を使うのをやめて、歩いて通勤してみることにしました。」
や、
「車で通勤するのをやめて、歩いて通勤してみることにしました。」
の方が自然に聞こえると思います。
