@zu_12 You don't really need to change the wording. Tone of voice makes a big difference. Sounding happy/appreciative will have a bigger impact on your listener than your word choices. I can make anything sound sarcastic and I can make just about anything sound sincere. Thankfully those are universal regardless of your native language. Example. If I'm angry, you don't need to understand a single word. You still would have no doubt that I'm angry.

@COASTBC Oh by the way, in that case, can I also say “I’m good”, “I’m okay” and “I’m fine” instead of “That’s okay”?

@zu_12 Yes you can. They would all be understood to mean that you don't need help. My personal habit is usually "No, I'm good. Thanks"

@zu_12 A good salesperson will use an open ended question. Example. "Can I help you?" This is closed ended question. You can simply answer "no" and the conversation is done. "How can I help you?" You can't answer "no". This is designed to keep the conversation going and eventually sell you something.
I reply to an open ended question with. "Oh, don't waste your time on me. I'm just looking today." I have politely told them that I have no intention of spending in their store and they are more likely to make a sale by focusing their efforts on another customer.

@zu_12 I learned that years ago in a sales training course. Open ended questions improved my sales dramatically. The idea is to establish trust with the customer. They begin to see the salesperson as a friend and abandon the formality of customer and salesperson. In some cases you might have to be a bit rude if the salesperson is very persistent.

@zu_12 If you feel the need to be rude, a good salesperson will look hurt. Don't fall for that either. They have changed their tactics are trying for what's called a sympathy sale. They are trying to make you feel bad and buy something to make them feel better. They are not actually upset.
The puppy dog sale is the best approach for an indecisive customer. Example. You can see they want to buy something, but they're not sure if they want to spend the money. Put the item in their hands. They will usually buy it.
It's called the puppy dog sale because it's the same as looking at puppies or kittens. It easy to say a puppy is too much hassle and responsibly. Once you actually hold the dog, it's much harder to say no.
