@studiousboy The word “party” has a few different meanings. In the context of video games, it just means “group”. So you’ll often see things like “join party” or “create party” in multiplayer games.
“Party” means “group” in restaurant contexts as well. When you first walk into a restaurant, you’ll probably hear the host/hostess ask “how many in your party”. He/she is asking how many people are in your group to determine if they have any appropriately sized tables/booths available to accommodate you.

Nope you can say either one. The difference is join our party can be more demanding then come to our party which sounds more polite. However, you could technically say both.

@jeffprolanguages That’s great to know. Thank you! So both are right.

“Join our party” isn’t very natural in a situation where you’re having a gathering in person. I’ve only seen/heard “join our party” used in video games and when people go to restaurants.

@bsloan7 Thank you. But why can “join our party” be used in video games? Are there any parties in games instead of in real life?

@bsloan7 That makes sense. I also noticed that you said this phrase isn’t very natural when I’m having a gathering *in person*. So you mean, if someone else is having it, “join our party” becomes valid?
- English (US)
@studiousboy No, that’s not what I meant at all. I was just trying to find another way to describe a party as in a celebration that happens in real life (in person). It probably wasn’t the best way to describe it, but it’s hard to put something like that in other words lol. “Join our party” is not natural in that context at all. When you’re inviting people to celebrate with you, you should say “come to our party” or something along those lines. The reason is that the people at your party are just attending. They’re not becoming a member of anything.

@bsloan7 Thank you! But if I’m going to throw a party at the restaurant, “join our party” is okay to use, right?
- English (US)
@studiousboy It’s okay, but I still don’t think people would really say it. We usually say “come to my birthday brunch/lunch/dinner”, “come to my dinner celebration”, “I’m/we’re celebrating XXX at [name of restaurant]. Will you come?” and similar things.
