Question about Ukraine
What is the situation like where you live? On the news we see brave Ukrainians fighting against the cold in destroyed cities. Do you feel safe where you are, do you still have some comfort?

we don't have any comfort, actually. However our military do their best. Some cities are safe and couple of them are not.The air alarm every time scares us. But the news is right. We are fighting against the cold and destroyed cities. But the scariest thing is that little kiddies are not safe and they're dying after 2-3 days.

What a terrible way to live. I'm so sorry to hear that.
The world is seeing everything that is happening in Ukraine. We are getting daily reports on the news. Military experts tell us how weak, demotivated and badly organized the Russian army is. Europe and America are making plans right now to send more and stronger weapons. One day, I hope very soon, you will win. We have never seen people that are so determined and courageous as you Ukrainians. You are fighting for a country and not for a dictator, like the Russians. And your president is constantly making sure that the world knows the current situation of Ukraine and its needs. This man is absolutely magnificent.
I hope the winter will be short.
Stay safe. 😘 This war will end.

Well, that’s the way some of ppl cook their food these days. Those are lucky ones who have gas stoves. Others, those with electric ones, have to use explosive gas ballons

And that’s the way I’m working these days. It’s cold in my house, so I have bought special gloves to keep my hands warm while typing smth in on my laptop.

Hi Elena,
I'm sorry to see what impact the Russian attacks have on your life. And on the lives of so many totally innocent people in Ukraine. To some extent we, too, are suffering by Putins actions. Due to the sanctions gas prices here have risen to unbelievable heights. Some people have seen their gas and electricity bills rise by 400%. Most of us are now trying to live with as little heating as possible. I know your gloves very well. I have them, too. And a bodywarmer and thick slippers.
But it is true, we live in very different conditions than you people. At least we have hot water, electricity and heating, at the moments that we really want or need it.
The news here in The Netherlands still revolves around the war in Ukraine, like it has for so many months. We see the destruction that is still happening day by day. And we hear the stories from the people that have suffered at the hands of the Russian soldiers, in so many ways.
Refugees from Ukraine are still very welcome here. My town houses hundreds of refugees. I am a volunteer in a building with 200 refugees, and more refugees will be added soon, I was told. I 'run' the free clothes store, we have just had a Christmas 'sale' where people could get all the free winter and Christmas clothes they wanted. It takes their minds a little off everything that has happened to them.
I'm adding a picture of my winter outfit this year.
Take care Elena, and stay healthy!

@Elske thank you soooo much for your kind words, kind heart and kind actions :) From all Ukrainians :) (Just for information, I’m ethnique Russian, born in Lugansk, have most of my family in Russia and used to live travelling there in my childhood. Since 2005 I’ve been living in Kyiv. I used to speak Russian as my mother language till 24.02. but now our whole family, as well as the vast majority of friends, have completely stopped speaking Russian even at home between each other. We speak Ukrainian or English. I know it all about false Kremlin’s narratives about protection of Russians, discriminating of Russian language and all other bullshit.)

Sorry for not answering sooner. I read your answer 5 days ago, but this is such a busy time.
It must be a strange experience having to 'give up' your native language because it is the language of the agressor. I speak a little Russian, and have asked questions about Russian in the Russian section of Hinative in the past. But I got so frustrated and angry not being able to address the destruction and hardship their country is causing in Ukraine and the way the Russians on Hinative are ignoring the war, that I stopped going to the Russian section. These people are so brainwashed, inspite of living in the 21st century, with independent reporters and all social media telling what is really happening in Ukraine. It is incredible. Their government owns their minds. You people are so right fighting for your freedom!

@Elske hi! Same, busy time :) We managed to get some festive mood and I got inspired to decorate our house. And thanks to our heroic electricians (who fix the system 24/7) and our army forces (who repel the attacks more and more successfully) we have electricity every 4 hours :) It’s feels like luxury :) And yesterday we watched the new Avatar. Full parallel of Russian envision to peaceful land.
It’s not that hard to switch to Ukrainian. Here in Ukraine most people are exposed to both languages to be able to understand and to speak. Russian is my mother tongue but I learnt Ukrainian at school (and I’m good at picking up languages) and then used it occasionally at work and business communication.
There’s no point in trying to convince Russians. They are doing nasty things and sincerely believe they are doing good. Where you can change something is talking to people around you in your country and tell them how things here really are. Convince them to reach out ppl from Ukraine and who are in Ukraine and ask what is going on here.
Everything will be Ukraine :) Slava Ukrainje! :) And happy New Year!
