Yes, I think that must be what they meant! In your original post, the question is missing “do”. “How ‘do’ you study?”
So you said you were going to prepare for your English oral exam and then the person asked, “How do you study (for that oral exam)?” I assume they were wondering what study methods you use, like do you write down what you’re going to say for your oral exam in advance, do you practice out loud in front of a mirror, do you listen to recordings in English and repeat to practice pronunciation, etc.?

How do you study for a test or to practice new vocabulary, etc.?
Do you make flashcards, do you like to have a partner quiz you out loud, do you look over your notes again and highlight terms, etc.? Do you study while listening to music or do you study in complete silence?
