@miracle5201314 Yes, they could probably be used the same way in many situations, but "ascendant" is not a word commonly used in English. 9,999 out of 10,000 times, you'll probably see "advantage" used as the noun. Because of this, to avoid confusion with people, I'd probably use "advantage" if you want to use it as a noun. In scholarly environments, it doesn't really matter. But in the general, out-in-the-world type of environments, that's what I'd recommend.

"Ascendant" can be both a noun or an adjective.
As a noun, it means that you are in a position of power and influence. Example: With his rivals in the ascendant, he soon lost his position.
As an adjective, it means rising or superior. Example: The Labor Party was ascendant after victory in the war.
This word isn't used very often, though, and the adjective is definitely used more. We usually only use the verb "to ascend," which means "to go up." Example: He ascended the throne and became king.
"Advantage" can be both a noun and a verb.
As a noun, it means that you are in a superior position or condition. Example: The player who takes the first turn has the advantage.
As a verb, it means that it benefits something. Example: The new government policy advantages our cause.
The noun form is probably used more than the verb form in practice.
"Ascendant" as a noun may need "in the ascendant" as a phrase and cannot be a verb. "Advantage" has fewer restrictions as a noun and cannot be an adjective.

"Ascendant" is an adjective; it refers to a thing that is rising (ascending). This can be something that is literally rising, or a person who is rising in rank or station.
"Advantage" is a noun; it means a superior position or benefit: "His expensive equipment gave him an advantage over the other competitors."
