Staring at the sun is dangerous and painful, but she is willing to do it. Staring in the mirror forces her to look at herself and see her true faults and weaknesses, and she is not willing to do that. She can face the external, disconnected danger, but not the internal, personal ones. She is brave, but not brave enough to face her own true self.
