They're both right, but this sounds more natural. It's pronounced how it looks. Although my grandmother still prenounces it on-vuh-lope, which is perfectly fine. Hope this helps.

As an American from California, I rarely hear "en" actually. I always say "on." That's interesting!

@studiousboy Well, I got to thinking. I said it was "en-velope" and that is what I normally say. For an envelope that you put a letter in. But I realized today that when I refer to a larger one, one that you might mail something other than a letter in, I tend to call it an "ahn-velope" and I can't figure out why.
I'd conclude, I guess, that some people say it one way and some the other way. It's the whole tomato/tomata thing.
