He put me on to you means that he somehow told me about you (by word of mouth, a text, an email, a phone call) and that I should get in contact with you. Not necessarily get to know you but to get in contact with you.
She put me on to this recipe. She told me about the recipe (either by telling me personally, a phone call, a text, whatever). I know about this recipe because of her.

To have someone on doesn’t mean anything by itself. “I have you on speakerphone” means I’m on the phone with you and the call is on speakerphone where everyone can hear you.
To put someone on means to tease. Oh, I’m just putting you on. Don’t take me seriously.
To put someone on to someone means to transfer — I’ll put you on to my boss so you can speak to her.
To put someone onto [one word] something means to draw someone's attention to something useful, notable, or interesting. My counselor put me onto the mental health office where I could get some help from a professional.

She put me on to him.
This means she referred me to him so I could get in touch with him to get some information. It doesn’t have anything to do with getting to know someone.
