I need a help to translate this phrase: "Now we never broke out the ring"
I need a help to translate this phrase: "Now we never broke out the ring"
Do I translate literally, or is it a sentence in a figurative sense? If it is figuratively, what does mean?
Context: "Spending everyday thinking of you
That's the true, yeah
Now we never broke out the ring but I sure know that you loved to stay"

This is not a standard phrase. To break something out means to present something that wasn't there before, or to bring something to the attention of everyone present.
"The party was a little boring, so we broke out the karaoke machine and everybody sang."
"I felt like celebrating, so we broke out the champagne that we had been saving."
But in your sentence, it means to get married. "Now we never got married, but I sure..."
It is very informal and non-standard. You will probably never read it used this way again.
