This sentence is perfectly fine to use, but a more natural sentence would be:
"In the meeting, we set a date and we are going to a trip to Africa."
All I did was used a punctuation mark (,) in between "meeting" and "we" for a pause and changed "we are going to go" to "and we are going" because it is too wordy.

We use "and" to connect big ideas.
Another way to say this is:
In the meeting, we set a date for when we're going on a trip to Africa
