It's a reference to a saying from a hockey player ("you know what they say"). To me, it means that one should take action ("trying to hit my shot") and risks and not wait for the perfect circumstances before "taking a shot". If you are always waiting for the perfect opportunity, you may never score a goal ("miss 100% of the shots you don't take"). Sorry for the long explanation.
