“to clean up“ means that you are putting away things that are on top of a particular surface
So if I clean up the kitchen table after dinner, it means that I am putting away all of the food and the dishes and the cutlery and anything else that is making a mess on the table.
So – is that what you mean about your carpet? Are you going to pick up things that are on your carpet?
Because if your carpet is dirty and you need to wash it, that is totally different – that is not “cleaning up“. That is simply called washing or cleaning.
